The Environmental Studies Program at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor for the Fall 2026 semester for the following course. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the course offered below will be taught in person, unless otherwise specified as an online course.

The course is scheduled on Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.

ENV 3510-01 – Sustainable Community Planning

An overview of how planning tools and practice shape the form of communities, including: (1) Key issues and principles of sustainability at a community scale; as well as related planning approaches; (2) Sustainable community planning approaches and tools for identifying and achieving quality of life, and (3) The components and process of developing an integrated sustainable community plan. Students will learn how to assess community capital, identify and recruit key stakeholders, and develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate a community plan.

REQUISITES: ENV 1010 or ENV 2030 or permission of the instructor - Must be completed prior to taking this course.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant should hold a master’s degree in an environmental or related field, or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience in the subject area for the course. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research, or practice related to the course content.  

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster and full-time and term contract Faculty Members of the Academic unit.
