Working out of the Office of Counselling Services, the Clinical Case Worker provides intensive case management services to students exhibiting distress or disruption as a result of complex case presentations.  The Clinical Case Worker works both within the counselling unit and in multidisciplinary capacity to support students and the campus personnel who provide supports to students with complex needs.  This is a new position at UPEI and would benefit from a candidate with experience in and passion for developing new roles in a service setting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide case management services to students with complex needs accessing multiple university services
  • Provide consultation to and work closely with faculty and staff who are supporting student experiencing difficulty
  • Provide referral support and coordination for students with complex needs accessing community supports via government services and community groups
  • Conduct holistic assessment of needs for students identified as needing support with complex case management
  • Provide navigation support to students in need of support to access supports and services
  • Chair the Student of Concern committee in providing assessment and behavioural intervention plans for students identified via the Student of Concern process
  • Provide psychotherapeutic counselling interventions to a limited caseload of students
  • Develop and maintain processes and record keeping, in line with professional ethical requirements for clients and the Student of Concern initiative
  • QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Undergraduate degree in a human services field required, graduate and/or social work training would be an asset
  • Formal credentials in case management and psychotherapeutic interventions
  • At least 3 years experience in case management
  • Experience in crisis intervention
  • Formal training, supervision, and experience with Motivational Interviewing
  • Experience applying principles of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy would be an asset
  • At least 5 years’ experience working directly with young adults, preferably in a post-secondary setting
  • At least 2 years experience providing ongoing psychotherapeutic interventions (for exceptional candidates, experience acquired as a part of obtaining a degree may be considered)
  • Lived experience as a member of or working closely with members of equity deserving groups  
  • Registered or immediately eligible to be registered by a provincial licensing body overseeing clinical mental health services (PEI Social Worker Registration Board, College of Counselling Therapists of PEI, or PEI Psychologists Registration Board)
  • Skilled communicator and negotiator
  • Experience in process development and review
  • Collaborative problem solver
  • Experience with Academic Regulations, University Policies and Procedures relating to student success, appeals, and academic engagement is an asset
  • A candidate who can contribute to the diversity of the counselling services office would be an asset
