The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking applications from qualified individuals to provide timely and efficient Data Control/Banking support for the UPEI Financial Services Office. This position will report to the Financial Services Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Data Control/Banking Clerk will be responsible for the following:

  • Posting of cash sheets, journal entries, internal requisitions, banking payments, account openings and budget changes
  • Ensuring the signing authority and access database are updated as required
  • Monthly bank reconciliations and month end closing procedures
  • Balancing the general ledger and sub ledgers
  • Processing of weekly cheque runs, international wire payments, and transmission of payroll
  • Providing support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders regarding the university’s financial system
  • Ensuring internal control processes are followed
  • Year-end reconciliations, filing and responding to departmental queries
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful completion of a two-year post-secondary program in accounting or office related course work with related work experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination
  • Solid knowledge and experience with accounting procedures and functions, specifically in relation to bank reconciliation activities
  • Proven record of providing exceptional customer service
  • Excellent professional, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge and experience working with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets, and database query programs
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience with processing payments and cash handling
  • Experience working in a University or similar environment is an asset
