Employees in this class perform maintenance and renovations of buildings, equipment and grounds on all University owned assets. This position troubles, maintains and repairs equipment, building structure and building systems and ensures all hot, chilled, domestic and storm water systems along with steam and sewage systems are in good repair through maintenance and/or new installations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carries out plumbing related projects such as installing new plumbing systems, prepares material lists for such projects, and carries out installation in accordance with local, provincial, and Federal codes and regulations
  • Trouble shoots, maintains, and repairs all plumbing related systems and equipment such as domestic water systems, heating systems, cooling systems, drainage systems, humidification systems, sprinkler systems, compressed air systems, steam systems, medical gas systems, and compressed air systems
  • Trouble shoots, maintains, and repairs equipment such as pressure reducing stations, pumps, compressors, boilers, burner systems, garburators, commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment, etc.
  • Trouble shoots, maintains, and repairs all instrumentation on the equipment and systems within campus
  • Carries out maintenance, repairs and installation of wall coverings, wall protective systems and track systems. Installs white/bulletin boards, paper dispensers, keyboard trays, etc.
  • Carries out maintenance and repairs to miscellaneous furniture and equipment such as chairs, tables, microwaves, beds, etc.
  • Carries out non plumbing minor repairs or initial investigation work such as carpentry, ventilation, millwright, welding, groundwork, etc.
  • Repair, reset and reprogram fire alarm and security systems
  • Requisitions for material, supplies and tools relating to proposed or actual work being performed and inventory purposes
  • Such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor
  • Directly responsible to the Maintenance Foreman
  • Provides working guidance to co-workers, students, and part-time employees

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education level with diploma
  • Journeyman’s Plumbing ticket from the Prince Edward Island department of Labour
  • Preference will be given Red Seal certification as a plumber
  • Five (5) years’ experience in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of building systems and equipment with preference in an education/health care setting, after journeyman’s status
  • Computer software experience
  • Valid driver’s license and a Criminal Record Check will be required
