The Health-Centered Research Clinic (HCRC) was established as an initiative of the PEI Primary and Integrated Healthcare Innovations Network and is located on the campus of the University of Prince Edward Island. The purpose of this center is to conduct person-centered research that will promote health and wellness across the lifespan. At the HCRC new models of care and therapies are developed for chronic and acute health conditions and technologies are developed to support the proactive maintenance of health.

Our vision is to create a vibrant and productive patient-oriented research community in PEI that is linked regionally and nationally to deliver more integrated, cost-effective primary and integrated health care that leads to improved health outcomes for Islanders. Utilizing a collaborative approach, we will focus on innovative evidence-based initiatives that promote efficient and effective care to meet today’s challenges.

The ideal candidate will be motivated by the challenge to conduct cutting-edge patient-oriented research with the goal of developing precision health and medicine strategies to support the proactive maintenance of health and to increase the effectiveness of interventions for cohorts with ambulatory care sensitive conditions, mental health issues, and chronic diseases.

The successful candidate will be an experienced scientist and project manager with expertise in microbiology, genetics, immunology and bioinformatics and with excellent organizational and communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director of the Health Centered Research Clinic, the successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

  • Engage in patient-oriented, evidence implementation research
  • Support ongoing research projects in the UPEI HCRC
  • Work as a co-applicant and co-author on grants
  • Co-supervise trainees
  • Responsible for at least one major research initiative/program of the UPEI HCRC
  • Conduct patient-oriented research and contribute to data analysis and writing research publications, as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Microbiology and Immunology
  • Training and experience in Proteomics, Gene expression and Bioinformatics
  • 5+ years’ experience as a scientist
  • 5+ years’ experience as a project manager
  • 5+ years’ experience in a health services or industrial environment
  • Experience with patient-oriented research
