The Office of Student Culture and Community Standards at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for a Spiritual Life and Community Care Advisor. The Spiritual Life and Community Care Advisor is a key member of the Student Culture and Community Standards team, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment that provides inclusive spiritual, pastoral and emotional support to students, faculty and staff fostering a respectful and diverse university community. This position supports the spiritual well-being of the university community by fostering an inclusive environment that welcomes people of all religious, spiritual, secular and questioning identities. The role provides inclusive compassionate spiritual care, guidance and referrals to students, staff, and faculty during times of personal loss, crisis, transition, and other significant life events. It also serves as a key connection point between the university and faith-based student groups and community organizations, while ensuring that the Chaplaincy Centre remains accessible and responsive during important religious observances and seasons.
Reporting to the Manager of Student Culture and Community Standards, the Spiritual Life and Community Care Advisor plays an important part in building campus community and encouraging meaningful dialogue. The position coordinates a variety of programs and events, including Soup for the Soul meals, exam-period lunches, pancake breakfasts, and other community-building initiatives, such as Courageous Conversations in partnership with student and academic groups. The Spiritual Life and Community Care Advisor also maintains a visible and engaged presence across campus is a key aspect of the role, including attending university events, strengthening relationships with external stakeholders, and promoting chaplaincy programs through social media platforms.
Priorities
• Create inclusive spiritual development opportunities. Design programs, retreats/focus groups, dialogue groups and reflection and, experiential learning experiences that help students explore meaning. Purpose and values, identity and belonging without promoting a particular belief system.
• Provide care, guidance and appropriate referrals.
• Build and assess a campus wide support ecosystem through partnerships with students, faculty and local and world view communities. Establish learning outcomes and use student feedback to measure belonging and spiritual growth

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core responsibilities for the position will include:
Spiritual Care and Religious Practice
• Deliver confidential pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and emotional support and referrals to individuals of all faiths and none.
• Foster an inclusive and welcoming campus environment that supports the diverse religious and spiritual needs of the campus community.
• Provide compassionate spiritual care and responsive support to students, staff, and faculty during personal loss or crisis, bereavement, and significant life events with appropriate referral to university services.
• Serve as a liaison with UPEISU faith-based student clubs, societies, and community organizations.
• Facilitate access and programming to the Chaplaincy Centre for significant campus identified religious observances and seasons, including but not limited to Ramadan, Iftar, Eid, Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.
• Respond to local, national, and international tragedies that affect members of the campus community.
Campus Presence
• Lead and coordinate multi-faith services, reflections and commemorative events across campus.
• Be attentive to the needs of campus life. Attend and support campus events as advertised through Campus Notices and other means whenever possible.
• Maintain an active presence on the Chaplaincy Centre and Soup for the Soul social media accounts (e.g. Instagram and Facebook).
Community Engagement
• Coordinate Food Security and community building schedules for:
o Soup for the Soul meals and volunteer hosts
o Exam-period chili and daal lunches
o Pancake breakfasts and other community-building events
• Coordinate the Courageous Conversations schedule in collaboration with the UPEI Student Union (UPEISU) and other campus departments, including Diversity, Social Justice Studies (DSJS).
• Member of the critical incidence response team as required
• External stakeholder engagement i.e. colleagues on other regional and national campuses, local faith groups, partners
• Accountable to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action Calls 48, 59-64
Administration and Operations
• Maintain the calendar and access approvals for the Chaplaincy Centre
• Daily liaison for the Manager of Student Culture for faith groups who provide support to students
• Serve as a liaison with Facilities Management and Security Services.
• Evaluation of Chaplaincy Programs
• Ensure compliance with Prince Edward Island Environmental Health requirements for the kitchen.
• Monitor and maintain Food Handler Certification requirements for individuals using the kitchen.
• Collaborates with the Development Office to maintain positive relationships with donors
• Annual reporting and reporting as required to funders
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Divinity, Pastoral Care or Related field
• Demonstrated knowledge and demonstrated ability to support spiritual care, faith development, multi-faith and community engagement.
• Training in mental health first aid, crisis intervention, trauma informed care, or suicide prevention, referral
• Successful completion of required background checks- Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
Experience
• Experience working in multi-faith and intercultural environments and facilitating interfaith dialogue and promoting inclusion and belonging
• Training and/or experience in spiritual accompaniment, pastoral care, or spiritual direction, crisis response, campus partnerships
• Experience in inclusive practices supporting individuals from diverse religious, spiritual, and non-religious backgrounds
• Demonstrated comfort in public speaking and ceremonies
• Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and listening skills
• Knowledge of confidentiality and ethics in higher education

• Manager, Student Culture and Community Standards (OSC&CS) in Student Supports and Services of office of the Associate Vice-President, Students
• Vice-President, People and Culture (VPPC), as needed
