The Writing Centre is looking for Student Assistants to work approximately 5 to 15 hours per week during the 2019-2020 school year, with time off during exam periods. Shifts may include weekend or evening hours. We are interested in students with strong writing skills and a passion for writing, and also students from a range of disciplines, including business, engineering, and the sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writing Centre Student Assistants primarily work one-on-one with undergraduate students to help them become more proficient writers and critical thinkers. Other duties may include the following:

• Class visits to promote the Writing Centre
• Administrative tasks
• Special writing initiatives

Assistants work closely with the Writing Centre Coordinator (to whom they report), and are required to attend regularly scheduled training sessions and staff meetings throughout the year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Preference will be given to applicants who have completed, or are in the process of completing, a reasonable number of writing intensive courses
• Applicants should also be in good academic standing at the time of applying, and during their tenure as Student Assistant
• Experience working with additional language learners would be considered an asset

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.

Applicants who are selected for an interview will also be asked for a reference letter from a professor familiar with their writing, as well as a sample of their own academic writing.
