The Faculty of Nursing, University of Prince Edward Island has a sessional teaching opportunity in NURS 2320: Introductory Pharmacology, in the Winter Semester of 2020 academic year. This position is subject to final budgetary approval
NURS 2320: Introductory Pharmacology
This course is an introduction to the discipline of pharmacology and the response of the human body to pharmacological agents used to manage disease and promote wellness. The principal objective is to provide an introduction to the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of each major class of drugs used in nursing practise. As well, clinical case studies are included so the student gains knowledge of nursing assessments of drug efficacy, side effects and drug interactions, special considerations for geriatric and pediatric patients, drugs used in public health, emergencies and over-the-counter medications, and non-pharmacological ways to manage or prevent disease.
Lecture/Seminar: Total three (3) hours per week. Monday and Friday plus two (2) Tutorials on Tuesday (January 3 – April 30, 2020)
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Nursing or related health discipline. A PhD in Nursing or health field will be an asset. Previous experience in teaching is an asset. Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster, and to those with experience in teaching university level courses.
