ENGLISH 1010: Academic Writing introduces UPEI students to the primary threshold concepts and foundational writing processes and forms that characterize written communication in academic work and educated discourse in all major fields of academic inquiry.

The course emphasizes writing as (a) a means to enhance intellectual discovery and reflection, and (b) to demonstrate learning in a variety of rhetorical contexts. Its integrated curriculum promotes sequenced learning and skills practice while focusing on critical thinking and reading, careful analysis, strategies of effective argument and use of evidence, and effective communication for diverse audiences. Its strictly limited class size allows for discussion, active learning, peer review and revision processes, individual attention, and independent and collaborative learning experiences.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as clear evidence of effective teaching experience in first-year university writing studies.  Minimal qualifications for eligible candidates are a Master’s degree in English.
