The Department of Health Management at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, located at 550 University Avenue in Charlottetown, PEI, invites applications for a four-month, full-time term position during the summer of 2021 in the Equine Ambulatory Service with a focus on sports medicine and preventive medicine.  This position will be at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor level, depending on qualifications and experience. Qualifications for this position include a DVM or equivalent degree from a college of veterinary medicine accredited by the AVMA and CVMA. The applicant must also be eligible for licensure by the Prince Edward Island Veterinary Medical Association. Details on eligibility can be found at http://www.peivma.com/.

Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be able to work effectively in a team-centered environment and provide outstanding service to our clients. Knowledge of, and experience with the Standardbred industry would be an advantage.  Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP-Equine) or by an alternate relevant board or college would be an asset but not a requirement.

This position will emphasize clinical service and teaching of clinical 4th year students as well as training interns/residents.  Responsibilities of the successful applicant will also include the provision of primary care to horses in the field, including shared weekend and after-hours emergency service. The current equine ambulatory section offers a variety of services including but not limited to preventive medicine, dentistry, lameness evaluation and treatments, reproductive management, foal care, etc.

The salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.  This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

The AVC is committed to teaching, research, and service, and is fully accredited by the CVMA and AVMA. The AVC is the regional veterinary college for Atlantic Canada. It is situated on Prince Edward Island, a tourist destination on Canada’s beautiful east coast. The AVC has more than 200 faculty and staff. Enrollment consists of 272 DVM students and approximately 70 graduate students. The teaching hospital and its ancillary facilities are modern and well equipped.
