The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), which is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, invites applications to the Department of Chemistry for consideration for a three-year term position in Organic Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level to commence July 1, 2022. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry or a related field and have relevant postdoctoral experience. Teaching experience would be a strong asset

The department is committed to undergraduate and graduate teaching and the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in organic chemistry and related areas, including first year general chemistry.  It is expected that the successful faculty member will develop a vigorous research program that will attract external funding.  Applications from all areas of Organic Chemistry will be considered.

The Department of Chemistry at UPEI has an enthusiastic and active faculty, with vibrant research profiles and dedication to undergraduate and graduate teaching and training.  We offer Chemistry Majors and Honours, as well as interdisciplinary Masters and PhD programs in Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences. The Department is housed in a modern teaching and research facility, opened in 1996, and is well equipped with modern instrumentation including a 300 MHz FT-NMR, a new (3 years old) 400 MHz NMR with a cryoprobe, a high resolution Thermo Exactive mass spectrometer, a powder X-ray diffractometer, TGA, DSC, HPLC and GC-MS.  In addition, researchers in the Department have access to a 600 mHz NMR and state of the art high resolution MS-MS instruments through industry and government partners on or near campus.
