What brought you to UPEI? Why did you choose to study here?

I'm from Charlottetown and chose to study at UPEI because it was close to home. My sister went to UPEI and played on the rugby team so I thought it would be a good fit to join her on the team.

What were the best things about being a UPEI Panther athlete?

The best thing about being a Panther was the community built among all the sporting teams. One year, we did an event that mixed up all the athletes on different teams and we got to compete in all the different sports. It was a fun way to bring us all together and try out another sport!

What kinds of support did you receive during your time here from UPEI students, Athletics and Recreation staff, and UPEI faculty members?

Since UPEI is a smaller university compared to others, everyone supported everyone and you could really feel that any accomplishment was celebrated. I was very well supported by the staff and faculty members; they understood my rugby commitments that made me miss some class time, but they were always willing to accommodate my needs. I am still receiving lots of support and anytime I am home and need to use the sports facilities at UPEI, the staff are always willing to help.

What's unique about UPEI, and Prince Edward Island, in your experience?

My experience might be a bit different since I am from PEI and a bit biased because I know how amazing PEI is (haha). The most unique thing about UPEI is how much people in the community get behind the athletes and support the teams. It isn't the biggest university but you definitely feel the support. It was very cool being able to show my teammates from off-Island and other athletes the places to go and be that "home person" for them.

"UPEI gave me the resources to really take my abilities to the next level. I had teammates and coaches who supported me in my dreams and helped allow me to grow in my rugby ability."

What would you tell a student considering UPEI and UPEI athletics?

I would say if you are looking for a very close knit family and a place that is very supportive of you, UPEI is the place. UPEI is always looking to help whatever needs you might have while making it a very fun experience. The campus is compact so you never feel overwhelmed, but it is beautiful and has everything you need to succeed.

Do you attribute any of your experiences as a UPEI student-athlete to your continued success as an international rugby athlete?

One of the main reasons I am where I am today in my rugby career is because of my time at UPEI. I developed so much as a rugby player and just an athlete in general. UPEI gave me the resources to really take my abilities to the next level. I had teammates and coaches who supported me in my dreams and helped allow me to grow in my rugby ability. UPEI partnering with Synergy was a huge opportunity for myself to get in the weight room and experience training with a strength coach to really push myself physically.

How do you feel UPEI prepared you for where you are now?

I think UPEI put me in a great place. Some of the courses I took in business have translated into where I am currently in life and gave me confidence in public speaking and networking. I never would have thought I would get to the point where I am today but I am very grateful with how UPEI has set me up!
