The Honourable Diane Griffin, LLD, UPEI’s Chancellor looks on as Dr. Wendy Rodgers, President and Vice-Chancellor, presents paralympian Mark Arendz with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree during 2026 Convocation.

The University of Prince Edward Island invites the nomination of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2027.

Honorary degrees are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour,” and are intended to recognize outstanding provincial, national, and international contributions in any field of endeavour. Contributions should reflect extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements, or significant service to society at a standard of excellence that merits the University’s highest honour.

A list of all those who have received honorary degrees from UPEI, Saint Dunstan's University, and Prince of Wales College during past convocations can be viewed on the UPEI website.

Nominations can be made online, or a form can be downloaded at upei.ca/nominatehdr. While nominations are accepted all year round, the deadline for nominations for 2027 candidates is Friday, December 18, 2026, by 11:59 pm. For more information, email senate@upei.ca.
