National meeting on aging to be held in Charlottetown, October 15–17
The Canadian Association on Gerontology, Canada’s premier association of those who work, research, study, or have an interest in the field of aging, will hold its 55th annual scientific and educational meeting (CAG2026) in Charlottetown, October 15–17, at the Delta Hotels Prince Edward.
The theme of the 2026 annual meeting is “Crossing Currents: Navigating Aging through Collaboration and Coordinated Action.”
Co-chaired by Dr. Janice Keefe, Mount Saint Vincent University and Nova Scotia Centre on Aging, and Dr. Jessica Strong, University of Prince Edward Island, the meeting will provide an opportunity to hear from experts in the field of aging across a range of disciplines and professions, including health, social science, and practice and policy, and to attend stimulating paper, poster, symposium, and workshop sessions.
“We’re excited to host colleagues from across the country and presenters from around the world at this important annual event in the field of aging,” says Strong. “We expect enlightening discussions, valuable networking, and presentations showcasing the latest research, programs, and policy in aging, gerontology, and geriatrics.”
Keynote speakers will cover a variety of topics including aging and climate change, interdisciplinary/cross -sector collaboration in aging research, and human/animal bond in late life:
- Michael Kalu, PhD, Faculty of Health, York University, Toronto;
- Marie-Jose Enders-Slegers, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Open University, Heerlen, The Netherlands;
- Jennifer Baumbusch, PhD, School of Nursing, University of British Columbia, Vancouver; and
- Jean Mitchell, PhD, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability, University of Prince Edward Island.
Other presenter themes include home care, family caregiving, and long-term care staff well-being, among many others.
Several pre-meeting workshops will take place during the day on Thursday, October 15, with the main program starting with an opening ceremony at 7 pm that evening. Special events include a CIHR-IA student poster competition, CIHR-IA strategic planning session, exhibit hall, and student connection social event.
