Erin Cabaday and Isaac Sommerville named UPEI Panther Ladner’s Source for Sports Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Ladner’s Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for October 19–25 are Erin Cabaday (women’s hockey) and Isaac Sommerville (men’s soccer).
Cabaday is a fourth-year business student from Oakville, Ontario. She was a steady presence between the pipes, backstopping the Panthers to a pair of victories over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues on October 21 and 23. She turned aside 47 shots across the two games, allowing just two goals and capping off the weekend with a shutout on Friday night.
“Erin was great this week. Her preparation was exceptional like it always is, and her habits and details in the crease were very sharp,” said Sean Fisher, UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers head coach. “She gives us a chance every night, and the team in front of her can play confidently knowing they have an elite goaltender behind them.”
Sommerville is a second-year psychology student from Memramcook, New Brunswick. He continued his impressive season, finding the back of the net against both the University of New Brunswick Reds on October 23 and Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on October 24. His two-goal weekend moved him into a tie for the conference lead in goals and helped the Panthers secure third place in the AUS standings with Saturday's victory over Moncton.
“Isaac was a key contributor this weekend, making his impact felt through his goal contributions while leading by example both on and off the ball. His work rate and commitment to the team stood out, playing an important role in our performances throughout the weekend,” said Mozzi Gyorio, UPEI Men’s Soccer Panthers head coach.
