The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island celebrated student and faculty excellence during its annual Fall Awards and Recognition Night on October 1, 2026. During the event, more than $130,000 in scholarships were gifted through over 90 awards. Students, faculty, donors, and supporters gathered to celebrate the achievements of award recipients and the generosity of individuals and organizations whose support helps advance veterinary education and research.

Among the evening's highlights was the presentation of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) Teacher of the Year Award to Dr. Stephanie Landry. Voted on by third-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students, the award recognizes the faculty member who has been most influential in promoting students' interest and enthusiasm for veterinary medicine. The award reflects Dr. Landry's commitment to teaching excellence and her positive impact on the next generation of veterinarians.

The Zoetis Award for Research Excellence, one of the most prestigious research honours presented to AVC faculty members, was awarded to Dr. Etienne Côté.  The purpose of the award is to foster innovative research, on which scientific advancement of the profession depends, by recognizing outstanding research effort, achievement, and productivity.  Dr. Côté's contributions to veterinary cardiology and research excellence have had a significant impact on both the profession and the animals it serves.

The G. Murray and Hazel Hagerman Graduate Studies Scholarship was presented to Tumise Faith Ehigbor. Awarded to a deserving AVC graduate student based on academic performance, the scholarship provides funding equivalent to one year of tuition and supports students pursuing advanced studies and research at AVC.

"Fall Awards Night is one of our most meaningful celebrations as a college," said Dr. Anne Marie Carey, Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs. "It recognizes not only outstanding achievement in the classroom, laboratory, and teaching environment, but also the individuals whose dedication and generosity help make those achievements possible. We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and faculty alongside the donors and supporters who invest in their success."

Each year, AVC's Fall Awards and Recognition Night highlights the exceptional accomplishments of members of the AVC community and the impact of philanthropy in fostering the next generation of veterinary professionals.
