Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for August 31 to September 6 are Liv Dowding (women’s soccer) and Adam Allain (men’s soccer).

Dowding is a first-year kinesiology student and striker from Westphal, Nova Scotia. She made an immediate impact in her second career game, scoring both goals in a 2-1 comeback win over the Saint Mary’s University Huskies on September 6 and helping the Panthers secure four out of a possible six points on the weekend.

“Liv was a difference-maker on both sides of the ball. She caused problems for the Saint Mary’s backline all afternoon, scoring in each half—first to bring us level and then to put us ahead in the second,” said János Barna, UPEI Women’s Soccer Panthers head coach. “She was just as impactful defensively, making several big tackles including a crucial one at the top of our box late in the game. It was an impressive all-around performance.”

Allain is a second-year kinesiology student and goalkeeper from Dieppe, New Brunswick. He was flawless through the opening two matches on September 4 and 6, posting back-to-back clean sheets in 1-0 wins over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus and the Saint Mary’s University Huskies.

“Adam had two solid performances this weekend, helping us earn two clean sheets. His ability and leadership from the back gives the group confidence and were a huge part of a great opening weekend,” said Mozzi Gyorio, UPEI Men’s Soccer Panthers head coach.
