The late Hon. Mark McLane

The University of Prince Edward Island was saddened to learn of the passing of the Honourable Mark McLane, former Minister of Health and Wellness and Minister of Finance, MLA for Cornwall-Meadowbank; UPEI alumnus (BBA ’93); and UPEI Men’s Hockey Panther (1989–92) on March 17, 2026. He was a tireless advocate of health education; in particular, he supported the expansion of the UPEI Nursing program and the development of a Doctor of Medicine program on PEI.

The flags in front of the Kelley Memorial Building have been lowered to half-mast in his memory. Flags on all provincial government buildings, including libraries, schools, and all health facilities, have also been lowered to half-mast and will remain so until sunset on the day of the funeral, which has yet to be determined.
