Lilly MacVicar and Josh Currie named UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for January 26–February 1 are Lilly MacVicar (women’s track and field) and Josh Currie (men’s hockey).
MacVicar is a first-year business student from Charlottetown, PEI. The sprinter continues to impress in her rookie season, quickly establishing herself among the conference’s top sprinters. At the weekend’s New Brunswick Indoor Championships and University Invitational, she delivered two standout performances, clocking in at 39.93 in the 300m to rank first overall in AUS while her 7.89 in the 60m placed her fourth in the conference.
“Lilly delivered an exceptional performance at the meet, highlighted by her meet-winning 39.93 in the 300m—just a tenth of a second off the school record and matching the time that won AUS gold last season,” said Damon MacDonald, UPEI Women’s Track and Field Panthers head coach.
Currie is a business student from Pickering, Ontario. He was the driving force behind the 6-4 comeback win over the St. Francis Xavier X-Men on January 31, delivering a dominant five-point performance. The third-year forward erupted for four goals and an assist, powering the Panthers’ rally and sealing one of their most impressive wins of the season.
“Josh had an excellent weekend and was strong in all areas of the ice, highlighted by his four-goal performance against St. FX. It was great to see him get rewarded for the work he’s been putting in,” said Forbes MacPherson, UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers head coach.
