Congratulations to UPEI alumnus and Olympic curling champion Brett Gallant
The University of Prince Edward Island extends heartfelt congratulations to alumnus and former varsity athlete Brett Gallant who captured a gold medal in men’s curling for Team Canada at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, on February 21. Gallant joins Heather Moyse and Dave “Eli” MacEachern as the third Islander to win Olympic gold.
A native of Charlottetown, Gallant attended UPEI from 2008 to 2012, where he competed for the University’s men’s curling team. During that time, he also represented Prince Edward Island in curling, winning the 2009 Canadian Junior Championship and taking silver at the World Juniors. While pursuing competitive curling opportunities off-Island, he completed his degree requirements, graduating from UPEI in 2018 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Now residing in Chestermere, Alberta, Gallant made his Olympic debut at the Beijing 2022 Games, earning bronze in the men’s event. A long-time member of Team Gushue, he won four Tim Hortons Brier titles (2017, 2018, 2020, and 2022) and captured world championship gold in 2017 along with silver medals in 2018 and 2022. In 2025, Gallant curled second on the team skipped by Brad Jacobs, which claimed the 2025 Brier title and went on to win bronze at the World Men’s Curling Championship, earning first all-star team honours. Across his career, he has made 13 Brier appearances and been a key contributor to multiple undefeated national and international runs.
Gallant has also excelled in mixed doubles with his wife, Jocelyn Peterman, winning two Canadian titles in 2016 and 2019 and earning silver at the 2019 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. They were selected to represent Canada again in 2022 and won the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Trials to advance to the world championship. They competed in mixed doubles curling in this year’s Winter Olympics, making Gallant the first Canadian curler to compete in two disciplines. The duo finished the round robin 4-5 but missed the playoffs.
Congratulations from everyone at UPEI on your huge accomplishment, Brett! Go Panthers Go!
