Regan Cornford and Jakob Robillard named UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for January 6–11 are Regan Cornford (women’s basketball) and Jakob Robillard (men’s hockey).
Cornford is a first-year science student-athlete from Chateauguay, Quebec, who is quietly putting together an AUS All-Rookie Team-worthy season. In the team’s January 9 win over Dalhousie University, Cornford scored 10 points with eight rebounds and two steals off the bench.
“Regan had a huge impact in our win against Dalhousie,” said Matt Gamblin, UPEI Women’s Basketball head coach. “She has grown every week this season and is turning into a consistent double-double threat. Regan leads all rookies and is second among all players in the AUS in field goal percentage.”
Robillard is a third-year business student-athlete from Rockland, Ontario. He continued his outstanding season with what may have been his strongest week yet, turning in wins over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus and the University of New Brunswick Reds. The netminder allowed just five goals across both starts, stopping 58 shots and finishing the week with a .921 save percentage.
“It was great to start the second half with a couple of important wins, and Jakob was a big part of it, making big saves to keep two elite teams down,” said Forbes MacPherson, UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers head coach.
