Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for January 12–18 are Grace Lancaster (women’s basketball) and Brett Bressette (men’s hockey).

Lancaster is a fifth-year business student from Fall River, Nova Scotia. Facing the University of New Brunswick Reds, one of the country’s top teams, last weekend, she rose to the occasion, averaging 16.5 points and hitting 6-of-10 triples during two demanding games. She poured in a game-high 23 points on January 17, nearly willing the Panthers to victory in a heartbreaking 78-77 finish.

“Grace bounced back in a big way on Saturday against UNB and put the team on her back, carrying us to within inches and seconds of pulling out the win,” said Matt Gamblin, UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers head coach.

Bressette is a second-year arts student from Penetanguishene, Ontario. He turned in his strongest performance of the season on January 16, scoring the overtime winning goal and adding two assists to power the Panthers to a 4-3 road victory over the Saint Mary’s University Huskies.

“It’s been great to have Brett back in our lineup after he had a significant injury in the first half of the season,” said Forbes MacPherson, UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers head coach. “He gives our group an offensive spark, and that showed Friday night against Saint Mary’s. Brett contributed three points, including the game-winner in overtime.”
