Three UPEI Panthers were recognized for their achievements in amateur sports during the 52nd PEI Amateur Sport Awards hosted by Sport PEI on Thursday, December 18 at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall in Charlottetown.

The PEI Mutual Insurance Coach of the Year Award went to Lacey MacLauchlan, head coach of the UPEI Field Hockey Panthers. She made her debut as head coach of the U16 National Development team on a European tour, won Coach of the Tournament with Team PEI at the U18 National Championships, and led UPEI to a historic national bronze medal finish at U SPORTS Nationals, where she was also named U SPORTS Coach of the Year.

The President’s Award (Outstanding Sports Contribution) went to Colin MacAdam, UPEI alumnus and former UPEI and Athletics PEI coach who is well known in Atlantic Canada having coached at the school, provincial, and Canada Games levels on PEI for almost 40 years. MacAdam was named the PEI provincial Canada Games head coach for track and field seven times and both Athletics PEI and Sport PEI Coach of the Year. He is the founder of the Islanders Track and Field Club, the largest track club in the province. He also served on national track and field coaching and officiating committees.

The True Sport Award went to Kamari Scott who brought his five-year run of excellence on and off the court for the UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team to a powerful close in 2025. Scott’s dedication to community was honoured as the AUS and U SPORTS recipient of the Student-Athlete Community Service Award. He was a first-team AUS All-Star and named Tournament MVP at the AUS Championships, where he also led a comeback win in the final, helping UPEI win its first title in 22 years.

“UPEI student-athletes and coaches are making their mark on the provincial, regional, and national stage,” said Jane Vessey, director of UPEI Athletics and Recreation. “We are grateful to Kamari, Lacey, and Colin for their contributions to Panther Sport and beyond. They are all highly deserving of this recognition by Sport PEI—we are so Panther Proud.”

Congratulations to all!
