UPEI business student wins Frank H. Sobey Award for Excellence in Business Studies

Samuel Harding, a third-year Bachelor of Business Administration student at the University of Prince Edward Island, has won a prestigious Frank H. Sobey Award for Excellence in Business Studies valued at $45,000.

The Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies are awarded each year to up to eight undergraduate business students attending an Atlantic Canadian university who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in business and dedication to extracurricular, community, and entrepreneurial activities.

Harding, who is currently an exchange student at the University of Malta, is specializing in accounting. He is on the Faculty of Business dean’s honours list and president of Enactus UPEI, which is part of a national student-led organization that uses entrepreneurship to improve the economic, social, and environmental health of their community and the country overall. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he plans to earn a master’s in business administration degree and then his chartered professional accountant designation.

A native of Stanley Bridge, PEI, Harding has been a budding entrepreneur all of his life. He has worked as a property manager for his family’s business and is passionate about real estate. 

“I would like to sincerely thank the Sobey family for creating such a prestigious and life-changing award and the Frank H. Sobey Award Board of Trustees for selecting me as a recipient,” said Harding. “It both humbles and lifts my entrepreneurial spirit and allows me to focus on my studies versus finances in the final year of my BBA and during my master’s degree. I would also like to thank my family and friends who are great supporters of me, and a special thank you to my parents, who I’m privileged to have as role models and continue to learn from every day.”
