Recent UPEI grad Timara Uhlig won Best Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation in the Physical, Theoretical, and Computational Chemistry Division of the 2019 Canadian Chemistry Conference and Exhibition, held this summer in Quebec City. Uhlig graduated this past May with her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (honours). Her research was supervised by Dr. Brian Wagner.

Uhlig’s poster presentation was titled “Synthesis and Fluorescence-based Investigations of The Host Properties of Pillar[n]arenes.” Pillar[n]arenes are a new type of host molecule first synthesized and reported in 2008, which have grown in popularity in supramolecular applications. Uhlig used fluorescence and other methods to compare these new molecules with other more commercially available host molecules for such properties as shape, rigidity, and cavity polarity.

Congratulations!
