Join the UPEI community for the Mental Health Week Kickoff! This will include the installation of an acrylic-on-canvas mural created by eight young people with psychosis. The mural portrays their experiences using paintings, posters, and words. A graffiti table will be set up all week for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to share responses on what the mural invokes. The mural installation has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council to Dr. Kate Tilleczek (UPEI and SickKids) and Dr. Katherine Boydell (SickKids), who have shown and discussed it with over 5,000 young people in high schools across Canada. It is being presented this week at UPEI by Katherine Lezeu (UPEI nursing student and Research Associate) and Valerie Campbell (Research Manager, UPEI). Reid Burke, Executive Director of Canadian Mental Health Association (PEI division) will give a presentation entitled “Mental Health is for All,” an overview on the importance of mental and emotional needs in conjunction with physical needs. All are welcome to attend.
