Background: | The Soto-Wright family created this scholarship to honor Velma and GeorgeÕs commitment to family, community, and education. The Wrights are direct descendants of Surveyor General Thomas Wright, who brought his family to PEI in 1769. GeorgeÕs book, The Surveying Wrights, documents the familyÕs role in Island history. George excelled in business, receiving the QueenÕs Jubilee Gold and Diamond Medals, recognizing his contribution to public life. His mother, Marion Wright, was an RN with postgraduate education in public health. Their daughter Valena Wright M.D. a recipient of a UPEI scholarship, graduated from Dalhousie Medical School completing her residency and fellowship in Gynecology Oncology at Brigham and WomenÕs Hospital in Boston where she has a clinical practice at TUFTS. Ivan, Natalie and Adrianna are fortunate to have spent summers on the Island, and all have pursued careers in business, which helped make this scholarship possible. |
