Description: Awarded each year to a full-time student enrolled in the Music Program at UPEI. Recipient must have a demonstrated financial need. Preference given to a student of voice who is a Canadian citizen.
Background: This scholarship was established by the late John Cuthbertson, of East Sussex, England, and husband of the late Elsie Cuthbertson. The Cuthbertsons lived on Prince Edward Island from 1964 until 1981 when Mrs. Cuthbertson died. Elsie Cuthbertson was well-known in Island music circles. She was a member of West Covehead United Church and sang in the choir there. A soprano, she was a soloist in a number of churches across the Island as well as appearing in many concerts. The memories of her singing will continue through the students the bursary will assist. John Cuthbertson died in January 2005. His second wife, Maureen, is delighted to hear from the student's who receive this bursary through John's legacy at UPEI.
