Description: Beginning in academic year 2024-2025, this award, will be granted to a veterinary medicine student in any year of study who: - completed their secondary school education in a Nova Scotia high school; - has a declared interest in practicing poultry medicine in Nova Scotia, and; - will be undertaking hands-on, practical training or work experience in any poultry operation (e.g. farm, hatchery, poultry vet practice, research facility) in the current calendar year. Background: The poultry industry in Nova Scotia is a thriving, sustainable sector that is expected to contribute to the province's rural economies for years to come. Poultry farmers rely on veterinarians to help them maintain healthy flocks and meet stringent national animal care and food safety requirements. The Nova Scotia Feather Boards (Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia, Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia, Hatching Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia, and Turkey Farmers of Nova Scotia) have established these awards to acknowledge the valuable role poultry veterinarians play within our industry and create awareness among veterinary students of the opportunities available in poultry medicine.
