Description: Granted to a third or fourth year UPEI Panther athlete who identifies as a woman, has achieved academically, is a team player, and has volunteered on campus or in their community during their educational experience at UPEI.
Background: Vince is not an individual who needs introduction. His impact on UPEI students is legendary, and to attempt to include every aspect of his contributions to the university's campus and our community in two paragraphs is impossible. Suffice it to say that every student, faculty member, and staff member is familiar with his name and the difference he has made to the University of Prince Edward Island. Vince's willingness, energy and time in volunteer efforts have made a difference on campus and in the community. Countless hours and, at times, unrecognized efforts came naturally to Vince - he was compelled to give back. His influence, support, and spirit are still felt today at UPEI and across the Island. He has changed everything he has touched for the better, and is an example to every person who considers volunteering for a worthy cause. And finally, there was rarely Vince without his loyal companion, Nutmeg, and then Sadie, by his side. Their passing was heart breaking for Vince, and for the greater community. They were special dogs and we miss their friendly, kind and gentle manner. Originally established by Myrtle and Vaughan Smith, the continuation of the original award and the addition of a second award will honour the contributions that Vince has made to UPEI students, to volunteer efforts that required his time, energy, and wisdom, and in memory of Nutmeg and Sadie, his ever-present and loyal canines who touched so many.
