Background: In November 2005, Marjorie MacLauchlan and family created the Harry W. MacLauchlan Scholarships in Entrepreneurial Leadership to honour the memory of Harry W. MacLauchlan (1926-2002), who combined entrepreneurial intitiative, work ethic, business judgment and people skills, with a deep commitment to his family, community and province. It was the family's wish that these scholarships provide an opportunity to advance and encourage entrepreneurial students to the benefit of the students and the Prince Edward Island communities. In 2020, the MacLauchlan family, in consultation with UPEI faculty and officials, considered a new initiative to encourage and grow entrepreneurial students who could benefit greatly from their support. This program would encourage and support students to become entrepreneurial risk-takers. It is in this context that the family decided to redirect an existing endowment to support these students and their projects.
