Background: | Originally from Cairo, Egypt, Dr. Abd-El-Aziz came to Canada in 1985 to pursue graduate studies in Chemistry. His career path has included professorships, departmental chairs, and senior administrative positions. He was installed as the University of Prince Edward Island?s sixth president in 2011, having come from the University of British Columbia where he served as Provost of their Okanagan campus. Alaa and his wife, Valerie, live near the city of Charlottetown and have two sons, Ahmad and Kareem. Apart from their many personal and professional accomplishments, Alaa and Valerie have also created student scholarships at universities in other regions of Canada. As a continuation of his dedication and passion for higher education, and commitment to graduate student support, Dr. Abd-El-Aziz has created this award at the University of Prince Edward Island. |
