Obtain permission to complete courses at another institution for UPEI credit (Letter of Permission)

Students enrolled at UPEI wishing to take courses at other institutions for credit towards their UPEI degree or diploma requirements must complete and submit for review, a Letter of Permission. 

Steps To Follow: 
Step 1

Download and print the "Letter of Permission" form.

Step 2

Complete the form, including the names and codes of the courses you intend to complete and have departmental approval (by the Chair of the appropriate department(s)) of the UPEI course equivalents.

Step 3

Submit the completed form to the Registrar’s Office for review. If approved, a signed copy of the form will be sent to you as well as to the institution you plan to complete the approved courses at.

Step 4

Upon receipt of approval from UPEI, you should proceed with the registration process with the institution that you plan to enroll at.

Step 5

After completing the approved courses, request that the other institution forward an official transcript to the UPEI Registrar's Office for confirmation and processing of credit award.

After you complete these steps: 

After filling out the Letter of Permission form, the Registrar's Office will be in contact with you regarding whether or not your courses will be eligible for use towards your degree or diploma.

Fine Print: 
  • The Registrar’s Office is responsible for assessing the equivalency of the courses for which permission to register is sought, in consultation with the department and/or Dean as appropriate, and will provide the necessary documentation to the host institution. 
  • Please note that you may be asked to provide a course description or syllabus to the Chair to support the evaluation of equivalency. 
  • As per Academic Regulation #17 (Academic Standing):  Letters of Permission will not be given to students on academic probation.
