|Background:||The Dr. Darya Campbell Memorial Award is presented to the student from Newfoundland and Labrador with thehighest cumulative average over the first three years of the DVM curriculum. This award is sponsored by theNewfoundland and Labrador Veterinary medical Association (NLVMA), and used to simply be called "TheNewfoundland and Labrador Veterinary Medical Association Award." In 1998, the NLVMA asked if we wouldofficially change the name to honor Dr. Campbell. Dr. Darya Campbell was a large animal practitioner in Newfoundland. She was admired by her colleagues andclients. She was only 37 years old when she died from metastatic breast cancer on February 3, 1998. She left behind a young daughter, Maggie. Her loss was deeply felt by family and colleagues.|
