Are you interested in a rewarding career as a health or education professional? If so, welcome to the Department of Applied Human Sciences! We offer exciting programs in nutrition, family science and child & family studies and now kinesiology.
Our department features one of the few university programs where, when you finish, you are ready to enter a profession with more than ninety percent job placement rate. Our faculty also believe very strongly that the best education experiences in the 21st century are those that give students the opportunity to combine academic study with real life experience. Our Nutrition students have the opportunity to take an internship program approved by Dietitians of Canada and work as a registered dietitian after graduation. Students in our family science and child & family studies programs take a variety of courses on families and child development and complete interesting community-based field placements in family resource centres, youth programs and schools. Our child & family studies program allows students to complete two years in an Early Childhood Education diploma program, finish their degree at UPEI, and apply for the Bachelor of Education degree program. Many of our students also apply to other professional programs such as physiotherapy, speech and language pathology and occupational therapy or continue their studies at graduate schools across Canada.
We have a very active Family & Nutritional Sciences Student Society which hosts fabulous pot luck dinners and social events. Over the past several years they have worked exceptionally hard to raise funds for families in need at Christmas. Our students know first-hand that we make excellence in teaching a priority. Our award-winning faculty take pride in getting to know our students, involving them in research and making their time with us one of the best in their lives. Our department is located in the Health Sciences Building, one of the newest buildings on the UPEI campus. Come and check us out!
