Tenure Track Position - Climate Change and Adaptation / Indigenous Education
Contract:

The Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Science at the University of Prince Edward Island welcome applications for a faculty member with multidisciplinary expertise in climate change and Indigenous education. The successful candidate will teach, and contribute to research and service, in both Faculties through a cross-appointment. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Prince Edward Island is at the forefront of impacts of climate change along the eastern coast of North America. Through its globally recognized UPEI Climate Research Lab and the newly developed UPEI BSc in Applied Climate Change and Adaptation, the University of Prince Edward Island is committed to developing climate scientists and professionals of the future, and contributing positive solutions to climate action. With this tenure track position, UPEI aims to build upon existing climate change and adaptation expertise. The position will play a key role in furthering awareness and understanding of Indigenous people’s relationship to the environment and knowledge of sustainability as a valuable world view with respect to climate vulnerability, impacts, and adaptation.

The incumbent for this position will also teach Indigenous Education courses at the Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and/or Doctoral levels. UPEI has strong partnerships with members of First Nations communities, and took further steps to honour the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Report with the creation of the President’s Indigenous Advisory Council earlier this year. The University has relied on its connections with Indigenous peoples to advance its educational mission in the province, region, country, and around the world. The Faculty of Education with its long tradition of dedicating energy and resources to create programming to support Indigenous students and conduct research with Indigenous peoples is uniquely positioned to partner with the Faculty of Science to assess the vulnerability that climate change brings and the adaptation options needed to respond to these anticipated changes.

This cross-appointment between the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Science will be centred on infusing Indigenous ‘ways of knowing’ into the academy, as well as supporting Indigenous students on their journey to and through post-secondary education.
