The Human Resources Department is seeking an energetic and motivated person to join its team. The Human Resources Department manages a comprehensive range of personnel, labour relations and human resources planning functions within the University. The work environment is high-traffic and fast-paced, and the subject matter is frequently of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Manager of Human Resources and the Associate Vice-President Human Resources and Legal, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide a wide variety of administrative support to the Human Resource Department but will specifically focus on the area of Employee Services
  • Maintain and process employee leave records; conduct orientation sessions; process and update Supplementary Health, LTD, Life Claims and WCB applications; pension administration; provide lists and other necessary information to campus and benefits carriers through the use of database query software; assist employees and the public; accordingly
  • Prepare and file correspondence, compiling statistical information
  • Maintain the HR information system through processing of transactional data
  • Prepare letters of offer or contracts for signature
  • Assist with on-boarding and off-boarding of employees
  • Maintain relevant spreadsheets
  • Respond to queries regarding employment, collective agreements, benefits, and similar related topics
  • Assist in benefit administration
  • Other projects and duties as required by the department

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a post-secondary program from a recognized educational institution in a related office studies program with HR related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered
  • Experience working with HRIS systems, employee benefits administration and employment contracts would be a definite asset
  • Familiarity with the UPEI environment, it’s regulations, policies and working knowledge of UPEI staff and faculty collective agreements would be an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills in advanced word processing, electronic information systems, spreadsheet, and presentations applications
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities, initiative, and flexibility
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet various deadlines
  • Clear understanding of the need for discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
