The University of Prince Edward Island invites applications from qualified individuals for a permanent half-time position as a research technician in the Department of Biomedical Sciences to support research in the area of mammalian kidney development using mutant mouse genetic models and mouse organ culture models.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide general laboratory management. Support to microscopic anatomy courses as needed
  • General lab duties, the successful applicant will provide specialized technical research support in the area of animal disease models and molecular biology
  • The successful candidate will be proficient in molecular biology, microscopy, statistical data analysis data, digital image analysis, and accurate record-keeping
  • Performing basic molecular biology techniques such as RNA isolation, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, PCR, qPCR, western blot etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science with at least 3 years of laboratory technical experience
  • Possess expertise in molecular biology techniques, and be willing to learn new techniques
  • Excellence in oral and written communication, computer-based data entry and analysis including ImageJ, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint for Mac are required
  • Must be self-motivated and highly focused, with demonstrated excellence in basic research and lab management
  • Excellent organization and accurate lab record-keeping skills
  • Experience in laboratory management, working knowledge of standard operating procedures and practices for general lab management and basic molecular biology approaches are required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as a member of a team
