The Robertson Library is seeking a qualified Library Technician to fill a permanent position in the Instructional Services area and provide services to students, staff, and faculty of the University and to the general public. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate judgment, flexibility, and initiative, to implement policies and procedures set by the Library, and to work cooperatively with Library staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Instructional Services Librarian, the tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

Instructional Services duties:

  • Create, post, and update videos and other instructional multimedia content on the library website, Learning Management System (LMS), and/or social media, with some direction/scripting from librarians and other relevant colleagues
  • Create, post, and update brochures, signage, handouts, and other documents, with some direction from librarians and other relevant colleagues
  • Prepare instruction materials upon request
  • Update and monitor content on the library website and within the LMS, with some direction from librarians
  • Organize, schedule, and conduct library tours; collect and compile statistics and feedback related to library tours
  • Create online tours and other digital objects, with some direction/scripting
  • Collect and compile instruction statistics and assessment data
  • Manage instruction requests and questions that come to the instruction e-mail account
  • Participate in campus and library events related to Instructional Services
  • Collaborate with other library and campus departments

Service Desk duties:

  • Work regular shifts on the Library’s Service Desk
  • Assist library users in locating and using library materials, services, and technology (eg. copiers, printers, scanners, common software applications)
  • Provide information/reference service in-person, by telephone, and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
  • Circulate library resources, laptops, etc.
  • Help supervise student assistants
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • A Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • At least two years’ experience in an automated library environment
  • Demonstrated strong customer service orientation
  • Effective technology skills including proficiency with MS Office/Google Workspace applications
  • Able to work day, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled

Assets:

  • B.Ed. degree or other relevant degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Work experience in a university library
  • Experience editing web content
  • Experience using Moodle or another Learning Management System
  • Experience with digital creation tools such as Camtasia, Photoshop, or Lumi
  • Experience creating content with the user in mind
  • Familiarity with Indigenous ways of knowing
  • Awareness of accessibility best practices
  • An open attitude towards new technology
  • Able to perform bending/lifting tasks, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
