The Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in the support of a cohort of 100+ senior international students in achieving the goal of helping them transition from student to professional and staying in Prince Edward Island post-graduation. The position will also support other aspects of the Office of Study Abroad & International Partnerships as needed.

Working in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent deadlines and various stakeholders, the Program Assistant must be a skilled planner with a strong client-service orientation. The successful candidate will work closely with all of Prince Edward Island’s publicly funded post-secondary educational institutions, various provincial and federal government departments, and partners from around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the delivery of a program that can be utilized within the three postsecondary educational institutions that connects international students to the community
  • Assist in coordinating the recruitment and selection of the 100+ final year of study student participants
  • Increasing awareness and developing a communications campaign on the value of hiring graduate international students from PEI postsecondary institutions
  • Assisting in the counsel, coaching and mentoring of international students related to their transitions to the PEI community and workforce
  • Collaborating with postsecondary institutions, government departments and community partners to ensure complementarity of services
  • Providing ongoing support/advice to students and monitoring their progress
  • Conducting assessments of and identifying potential candidates for the Study & Stay PEI Program
  • Recommending supports to assist students in navigating workforce processes
  • Assisting in planning and executing orientations, conferences and/or retreats
  • Working with internal and external partners to plan and deliver various workshops throughout the year
  • Developing mechanisms, programs and initiatives to ensure each student is accessing appropriate resources at their respective campus
  • Organizing additional, culturally relevant supports as needed
  • Providing ongoing, individualized support, advising and mentoring of students and monitoring their progress
  • Assisting in promoting the program via social media, info sessions, and other avenues
  • Be available to work some evening and weekend programs/events throughout the year
  • Other duties as may be required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma
  • Demonstrated experience in working with postsecondary institutions, government departments, non-government agencies and private sector
  • Experience developing, implementing and completing process evaluations for programs
  • Prior experience delivering and promoting services to the public
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication (oral and written) skills to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty and external contacts
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and sound judgement
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial policies related to permanent residency pathways for international students
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc. is essential
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a dynamic and diverse environment with numerous interruptions and constantly changing priorities
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle is necessary
  • Bilingualism would be considered an asset
  • Additional relevant education would be considered an asset
  • Experience publishing content and tracking results on popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
