The Psychology Department is seeking applications from qualified individuals to provide support services to the Department of Psychology.

This position involves contact with one of the largest academic departments at UPEI offering both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a PsyD in Clinical Psychology. The successful applicant will report directly to the Chair of Psychology. The nature of this position requires an individual who is efficient in a multi-tasking work environment, has high levels of competencies in modern computer technologies and online UPEI systems, knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques, an ability to work independently, excellent analytical and planning abilities, and strong motivation and interpersonal skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Course Support:

  • Hiring and training lab leaders
  • Implementation of labs sections/tutorials in consultation with the course instructor
  • Moodle maintenance, managing attendance, updating materials as needed, support for individual and group research projects, and equipment maintenance (i.e., audio recorders)
  • Recording training and SPSS and/or Jamovi training and assistance, regular meetings with lab leaders to ensure quality/consistency
  • Marking lab exercises

Technical support and Equipment/lab maintenance:

  • Ensure department computers are up to date and have current versions of software; contact ITSS as needed
  • Provide Moodle updates for labs and test banks
  • Assist honours students with online technical support and software training as needed (SPSS, Jamovi, etc.)
  • Support remote interviews for PsyD student admissions (pre-interviews, maintain physical and electronic copies of interview materials)
  • Record and securely share videos of teaching and research presentations for faculty applicants and other presentations as needed
  • Maintain Youtube and Facebook for the Dept of Psychology pages. Also troubleshoot issues with Moodle and serve as contact for ELO if needed
  • Basic maintenance and organization for departmental lab facilities as needed

SONA Systems Administration

  • Develop and maintain Psychology’s research participation program, SONA. This involves facilitating participation in psychology research studies, including posting research studies as they are approved, administering bonus marks to students for participation, and general support for faculty and students in navigating SONA

Health, Safety, and Science Support:

  • Department representative on SHASWG (Science Health & Safety Working Group)
  • Maintenance of record of chemicals stored in the department
  • Serve as safety officer for Psychology/Memorial Hall, and monitor WHMIS compliance and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Psychology preferred; related fields may be considered)
  • Competence in basic statistical techniques
  • Additional knowledge of qualitative methods and analysis preferred
  • Familiarity with modern computer technologies for the purposes of troubleshooting and liaising with ITSS, including Moodle, Zoom, MS Office Suite, SPSS, Jamovi, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills important
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of UPEI operations, its regulations and policies is an asset
