Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Research (VPAR), the Quality Assurance and Planning Officer supports the internal quality assurance (QA) framework as set out by the UPEI Senate to ensure that academic programs and their related functions are engaged in an ongoing, cyclical quality assurance process. This role supports the strategic vision of UPEI in terms of providing quality education and educational experiences, while developing students to their full potential. The position also supports the VPAR with academic planning and strategic initiatives that require follow-up actions in the VPAR portfolio.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with and under the general direction of the Vice-President, Academic and Research, the Quality Assurance and Planning Officer has the following responsibilities.

Quality Assurance of Academic Programming

  • In collaboration with the VPAR, Deans Council, and Senate’s Academic Planning and Curriculum Committee (APCC), coordinate and support the ongoing quality assurance of UPEI’s academic programs by managing the quality review process as outlined by the UPEI Senate policy and related guidelines, including new programs such as Medicine
  • Support and communicate UPEI’s QA-related policy, procedures, and resources to the UPEI community to enable program areas to conduct effective and efficient program reviews
  • Provide ongoing review and guidance on alignment of UPEI’s quality assurance framework with the quality assurance framework and expectations of the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission (MPHEC)
  • In collaboration with University partners, track, monitor, and coordinate quality assurance reviews, reporting, program updates as required by MPHEC, other updates in relation to UPEI programming aspects, and follow-up requirements
  • In collaboration with University stakeholders, coordinate the status of follow-up actions in relation to UPEI’s Quality Assurance Monitoring (QAM) review and develop corresponding QAM annual progress reporting for MPHEC
  • Maintain the UPEI Quality Assurance web presence to provide stakeholders with timely information on the status of UPEI academic program quality assurance reviews, accreditation status of accredited programs, and ongoing continual improvement initiatives
  • In collaboration with learning partners, help to promote a culture of student-focused quality assurance at UPEI

Academic Program Planning

  • Provide operational support for academic strategic initiatives and planning of academic resources in the VPAR portfolio, including for new programs such as Medicine
  • Support process development for continual improvement of efficiency of program delivery
  • Prepare reports and analyze data related to program reviews and resourcing of academic programs
  • Participate in the development of academic policies and procedures, ensuring alignment to applicable regulations and promotion of best practices
  • Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. A Master’s degree is desirable and considered an asset
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of directly related experience in academic program operations. Experience at a university will be considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated problem solving and sound judgement; ability to identify opportunities for improvements; strong project and time management skills; and high degree of self-motivation and professionalism
  • Knowledge of academic planning and quality assurance processes within post-secondary education; knowledge of academic / educational systems, standards and best practices; and experience working with various stakeholders
  • Strong computer skills
