The department of Pathology and Microbiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College is seeking applications for a student assistant position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of tagging and marking material for wildlife samples
  • Communication with partners and organization of sample collection
  • Pick up of wildlife samples across PEI
  • Receiving samples and organization and storage of samples
  • Partial and/or full dissection of wildlife carcasses for parasite recovery under supervision
  • Data entry
  • Other activities as required (e.g., field or laboratory work related to specific research projects, literature searches, database searches).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful candidate will have completed at least 4 years of an undergraduate degree in Biology
  • Student must have an interest in parasitology and wildlife veterinary science
  • Prophylactic vaccination against rabies is essential
  • Previous laboratory experience is desirable
  • Student must have a flexible schedule to accommodate flexible work hours
  • Experience utilizing a variety of computer software programs (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail, web browsers)
  • Independent work habit is required
  • Good communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Previous employment or experience at UPEI considered an asset

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
