Acknowledging that UPEI is located on the unceded land of the Mi’kmaq Nation, of the Wabanaki Confederacy, in the traditional district of Epekwitk, the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) welcomes applications from dynamic and motivated individuals to provide overall leadership, management, coordination, and planning as the Coordinator of the FSDE’s Engineering Success Centre. This position reports to the Dean of the FSDE.

Since 2020, using a student-led model, the Centre has supported engineering students in academic and other co-curricular activities through initiatives such as: peer tutoring and course support; professional skill development; leadership training; career planning; development of CAD, writing and analytical skills; and many others. The Centre’s efforts in these areas have contributed to overall student success and retention in the Sustainable Design Engineering program. Moving forward, the Centre seeks to further build on these initiatives and also seeks to expand its efforts in the areas of outreach and recruitment, retention, and student wellness to foster overall student and program success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide the day-to-day management and coordination of the Centre’s activities
  • Provide overall budget management, tracking, planning and reporting for the Centre
  • Hire, supervise and coordinate the work of Student Associates to support the Centre’s activities
  • Through training and support, work with Associates to foster their leadership skills to empower them to take a lead role in the Centre’s program development and delivery
  • Identify ongoing and future needs and pathways for Centre programming to support its mandate
  • Develop and implement initiatives to promote the FSDE program and engineering profession to potential students and relevant communities
  • Develop and implement initiatives to foster and support students’ overall well-being
  • Work with FSDE instructors and staff to identify and coordinate supports for individual courses as well as for the delivery of the overall program
  • Work with the Engineering Student Society and other FSDE student groups on initiatives relevant to the Centre’s work
  • Work with other groups on campus, such as Experiential Education, Student Affairs, other student help centres, etc, on initiatives relevant to the Centre’s work

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A relevant four-year post-secondary bachelor's degree with at least two (2) years related work experience and/or an acceptable combination of education and related work experience
  • Proven leadership, management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the following relevant areas: program development and delivery; outreach and promotion; leadership development; wellness; and STEM initiatives
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the field of engineering will be considered an asset
  • Excellent professional, interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills
  • An ability to work independently and as a member of a team, exercising a high degree of judgment, professionalism, and confidentiality
