English Academic Preparation (EAP) Program students try out the new language lab

Students from the School of Nursing enjoy UPEI's beautiful campus. Founded on the principles of Primary Health Care, the School of Nursing is dedicated to teaching our students health promotion and disease prevention, as well as how to care for patients who are ill. Our graduates are highly skilled, caring professionals capable of practising locally, nationally, and internationally.

Students take advantage of UPEI's state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including the renovated Duffy Science Centre, home to the Biology Department.

Students in UPEI’s School of Nursing work to promote public health through their clinical placements in health centres, public health offices, hospitals, and manors across Prince Edward Island. In the fall 2009 semester alone, UPEI placed 240 students all across these clinical sites. Fourth-year nursing students also provided much-needed assistance with H1N1 vaccination clinics in November. They worked in public health offices in Charlottetown, Summerside, and Souris, and in various schools across the province.

In fall 2009, team members from UPEI Panther Women's Soccer and Field Hockey teams raised money to fight breast cancer by selling pink toques. The women then participated in Run for the Cure, a fundaiswer for breast cancer held every October. <<MORE>>

The Mawi'omi Aboriginal Student Centre is the new "gathering place" on the UPEI campus. Located on the 5th floor of Dalton Hall, Mawi'omi is a place where Aboriginal students can study and relax between classes, or host talking circles, events, and meetings. It's a place where they can share commonalities and feel at home.

In the summer of 2009, UPEI celebrated 15 undergraduate research awards received from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). NSERC is the main government funding agency for basic science and engineering research. It supports students and faculty through a competitive process that rewards the brightest and the best researchers in Canada. <<MORE>>

UPEI campus was a proud silver sponsor and venue of the 2009 Canada Games in August. Student ambassadors - along with UPEI's Panther mascot, Pride - were on hand to welcome athletes, their families, and spectators at information booths all across campus. <<MORE>>

The UPEI Wind Symphony includes music majors, other UPEI students, and community musicians. Its mandate is to provide opportunities for its participants to apply their performance skills and develop musically through the study and performance of original and transcribed wind band literature. In addition, the Wind Symphony is a forum through which professional attributes of ensemble performance are developed. Since 1996 the ensemble has performed throughout PEI, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick, giving its audiences meaningful and personal experiences with quality wind music, in the widest possible range of musical style and expression. Dr. Karem Simon from UPEI's Department of Music is the conductor.
