At the next Research on Tap, join us for a discussion about how we choose our literature. Dr. Shannon Murray, Professor of English at UPEI, will lead a discussion entitled "We’ve become adults who read children’s books. What’s wrong with us?" The event begins at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 2, at The Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. “'Harry Potter' was among the first YA series to develop an adult following,” says Dr. Murray. “Even then, I can remember people hiding their copy behind a magazine. Today, people openly read 'The Hunger Games' or 'Twilight' without batting an eye.” Dr. Murray’s discussion will delve into the history of children’s literature, and how we have categorized (and sometimes marginalized) books for children. She’ll also bring examples of some of her favourite books that can be enjoyed by kids and adults. Research on Tap is a series of public discussions with UPEI researchers. For more information, contact Dave Atkinson at 620-5117, or datkinson@upei.ca.
You are invited to attend a presentation that will help learn how to better manage your time and combat stress. This presentation is open to students, staff, and faculty. A reminder to staff & faculty to consider the UPEI food bank located at the Chaplaincy Centre for drop off of food items such as spaghetti noodles & sauce, canned fish or meats, peanut butter, rice, crackers, cereal, etc. There are many students who use the services of our food bank and especially during these last few weeks of classes, the shelves are low and the need is great!
