Sara Eisler, University of New Brunswick, Science Atlantic/CIC Speaker Tour will present a seminar on Wednesday, April 10 at 12:30 pm. The presentation is entitled “Isoindolinones: a New Class of Multi-Stable Molecular Switches and Conductive Oligomers." The seminar will be held in Room 128 in the KC Irving Chemistry Centre.
Dr. Paul Harrison "The Biosynthesis of b-Lactones" Date: Friday, April 12, 2013 Location: The McCain Foundation Learning Commons (286A North), AVC Time: 10:00 am Dr. Harrison received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oxford and his PhD from the University of Alberta. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown University, with Dr. David Cane. He has been a faculty member at McMaster University since 1989. His research interests include chemical mimics of polyketide assembly, biosynthesis of acyltetramic acids and beta‑lactones, and twisted amides. Everyone welcome!
The Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre will be hosting the UPEI convocation. Hours will be reduced Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11. The building will close Friday at 5 pm and reopen to the public on Sunday at 12 noon.

Training is required to carry out these responsibilities: By ground: A person who handles (see definition below), offers for transport, or transports dangerous goods must: (a) be adequately trained and hold a training certificate; or (b) perform those activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a person who is adequately trained and who holds a training certificate in accordance with the regulations. Handling is defined as: loading, unloading, or packing dangerous goods ... for the purposes of, in the course of, or following transportation. Note: it has been clarified that you do not need to have training to unpack a dangerous good that has already been received by Shipping & Receiving. WHMIS training covers this aspect. By air: (IATA regulations) No person may offer or accept dangerous goods for air transport unless those goods are properly classified, documented, certified, packaged, marked, labeled, and in the condition for shipment required by the IATA regulations. The second annual UPEI Walk for Wishes will be held on April 6 at 2:00 pm at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre walking track. This event is in support of the Children's Wish Foundation, PEI Chapter. Children’s Wish grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are facing a life-threatening illness. The wishes granted by the organization helps boost the morale of these children who are facing a tough time. There will be prizes for top fundraisers including a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses! If you are interested in being part in this event, please contact Mark Scott at mascott@upei.ca. All members of the community are welcome to join! Staff and faculty are encouraged to help recruit students as well as participate in this event.
