Join UPEI Student Affairs in their lounge to watch Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TED Talk "A Danger Of a Single Story" on Wednesday, October 15 at 4:30 pm. This talk begins by telling a story about what the speaker would write about as a child. She would write stories that were similar to the foreign stories she would read, which depicted children that looked nothing like her. When she found African stories, she realized that people like her could be involved in the stories. If we hear or read stories about a part of the world, we tend to perceive that part of the world as the stories describe those places. After viewing this Ted Talk, an open discussion will be held to discuss the complexity of the Talk. Generous financial contributions to the UPEI Student Food Bank have kept the shelves reasonably stocked since the beginning of the semester. September is a particularly busy month as students pay fees and encounter other expenses. Our Food Bank wish-list includes: canned meats and fish; noodles - pastas, spaghetti, Mr. Noodles, Sidekicks; salt, pepper and other seasonings (garlic, cumin, curry, and coriander); canned vegetables; healthy canned soups - "Chunky" style; and even some treats - granola bars, pudding cups, crackers, and cookies. Our clothing cupboard also needs attention - organizing and sorting. Hats, scarves, mitts, and new socks are always appreciated. Many thanks for your continued support Sister Sue

Student awards will be presented at another time.
As syphilis is on the rise on PEI - UPEI's Department of Student Affairs would like to encourage all students, staff, and faculty to be aware of the signs and symptoms of syphilis. If students are experiencing health related issues, they can make an appointment at the Student Health Centre - we encourage staff and faculty to go to their family physicians or walk-in clinics.
