UPEI will host approximately 750 Canadian Student Leadership Conference
(CSLC) delegates and 250 advisors on Friday, September 20. UPEI faculty and
staff are encouraged to attend a gathering from 1:00–2:00 pm on Friday in
Schurman Market Square to meet some of the CSLC advisors.
The CSLC’s mission is to “promote and develop student leadership within
Canadian high schools.” Throughout the conference, students will attend a
series of workshops to further develop their leadership skills, build
confidence, and discover new ideas to help them make a difference in their
schools and communities.
UPEI welcomes all CSLC participants and wishes them luck in their future
endeavours!
The UPEI Department of Music Recital Series 2013-2014 is pleased to present
A Cornucopia of Music featuring David Parker, horn; Frances Gray, piano;
Morgan Saulnier, flute on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the
Dr. Steel Recital, UPEI campus. Admission is $15 adults/$10 students and
seniors. Tickets are available during weekday office hours from
music@upei.ca/566-0507 or at the door.
The concert will feature works by Saint-Saens, Strauss, Messiaen, Brahms,
Poulenc and others. Come join us for a pleasant evening!
The campus community is cordially invited to attend the fourteenth annual
Recognition of Founders Ceremony and the MacLauchlan Plaza Dedication on
Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 12:30 pm.
Please join us join us in the plaza outside the Health Sciences Building to
honour the 2013 founders: Janice Robertson (posthumously), Bob MacAulay
(posthumously), Verner Smitheram, Mike Read, and John and Carol MacLeod
(Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award).
Reception to follow in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

If you have difficulty carving out uninterrupted time for writing, if you
struggle with motivating yourself to write, or if you would simply like the
supportive collaboration of a writing retreat, consider Time to Write,
UPEI's faculty writers retreat.
When: November 8-12
Where: TBD
Cost to participants: $200, which includes four nights accommodation,
meals and snacks
Is Time to Write for You?
Your project must be at a stage where sustained writing time makes sense.
Your research and/or data collection and analysis must be completed to the
point that you are ready to write. You must also be prepared to commit to
the full program: a total of 3½ days focused on writing.
The retreat is open to tenured and tenure stream University of Prince
Edward Island faculty in any department/faculty/school.

University's first annual Donor Picnic on Wednesday, September 25 at 11:30
am in the quadrangle, front of Main Building. The Donor Picnic is one of
the many ways UPEI is celebrating its donors - please join us! (Rain

Members of the University campus are saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Keir Adams, one of the founding members of the Department of Chemistry who taught from 1969-1994. Professor Adams is resting at Belvedere Funeral Home where visiting hours will be held Wednesday, September 18, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm and the funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, September 19 at 10:00 am.

The UPEI women's hockey and rugby teams will host the third annual UPEI
Kitchen Party on Friday, September 27 at Peakes Quay. A reception and
silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by a delicious lobster
dinner served at 6:30. Funds raised will directly support the
student-athlete experience via athletic awards, professional training,
elite exhibition schedules, and more.
Tickets are available for $40 per seat, or $320 per table of eight. To
purchase a ticket or to find out how you can donate auction items, please

On September 26, the Faculty of Education PhD Seminar Series presents
guest speaker Dale McIsacc. Dale is a PhD candidate at UNB. His topic
will be: Factors Influencing PEI Teachers' Aspirations to the
Principalship.
