The Quebec Court of Appeal is expected to release a ruling tomorrow in a case about the future of the Senate of Canada. The government of Quebec has challenged the federal government's attempt to make what some have called an end-run around the Constitution by reforming the senate through ordinary legislation. The court's ruling will take into account the expert testimony of several witnesses, including Dr. Don Desserud, professor of political science at UPEI. Dear members of the campus community, On behalf of the University of Prince Edward Island, I would like to inform the campus community that Dr. Ron MacDonald, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, has been appointed interim Dean of Education, effective November 1, 2013. Dr. Miles Turnbull, outgoing dean, recently announced he had accepted the position of Vice-Principal Academic at Bishop’s University, beginning in January 2014. Ron MacDonald earned his PhD degree from the University of South Australia. Before teaching at Cape Breton University, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and UPEI, Dr. MacDonald was a junior and senior high school science teacher in Nova Scotia and Ontario. He was also an information technology integration specialist and professional development facilitator. Dr. MacDonald joined the UPEI Faculty of Education in September 2005 and was appointed Assistant Professor in 2006, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, in particular science methods, and conducting research in the intersections between teacher attitudes toward Information Communication Technology (ICT), leadership, and professional development for ICT integration. The One Match 'Get Swabbed!' event is an initiative of Canadian Blood Services to increase Stem Cell donors into the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network. This event is part of a nationwide university challenge. 'Get Swabbed!' is an annual coast-to-coast university challenge designed to engage and recruit young and diverse potential stem cell donors. This year marks the fifth annual event where university students across the country will be bracing their cheeks to determine this year's national champion. In just 5 to 10 minutes, you could change a life forever. Currently more than 900 patients are looking for a match in Canada. In addition, there is currently special need for 17 to 35 year old males who are ethnically diverse and in good general health to join the registry.
